Uni, Fan Dance, etc.

I'm free of midterms (some of them went well one didn't ðŸ¤)! And it's spring break time hurray! So far it's been a chill week at my Grandma's house in the middle of nowhere. I've mostly been chipping away at longfic and my backlog of stuff to study, news articles to draft etc etc.
Anyways, this last week was a big week! I had my birthday last week 🎉
Me and a friend finally tried out the new wine place on campus to celebrate and it was nice.
Dance practice is also going well. I'm part of a Vietnamese fan dance group on campus and it's been a really fun way to stay active and interact with other students. The people in the group are so sweet and encouraging even though I'm a complete beginner and didn't start fan dance until late January.
It's such a different environment from back when I was still doing ballet - a lot less rigid both in terms of the dance moves and the vibes. Of course there were also things I liked about ballet (I mean there was a reason I did it for 14 years before quitting), I just felt so hollow at times and the last straw was when my last instructor made us take ballet exams (with a written portion) lmao 😂
Anyways fan dance is super fun, I forgot how much I loved dance and I'm excited to be joining in on a performance in April. Hopefully I'll be able to throw my fan and actually catch it by then 💪
Ooh and I finished my German minor today because my instructor got around to inputting my grade. I really like my uni's German department. I've learned a lot about everything from medieval erotic literature to 1800s socialite life and it's been so much fun and a great breather from all my STEM classes (I still have flashbacks to calc 3 🥲).
And my last class for my minor was very fun since it was a linguistics class offered by the German department and we took a deep dive into how people use language. I was introduced to a lot of interesting perspectives like "Standard American English" being a myth of sorts since everyone has some kind of accent. Or how there's speakers who communicate in a heteroglossic fashion rather than bilingual and mix different language repertoires together rather than keeping them separate.
Maybe I'll tack on German as a second major, depends on if it fits into my schedule.
So yeah I'm just chugging along through the semester.
My new big mission is to get my brother to read f/f fics I like because the last time I called he mentioned BNHA and femslash in the same sentence not knowing the amount of my brainrot he'd unleash ✨

Date: 2024-03-08 10:31 am (UTC)The dance seems really exciting too! It's always great to find a community activity where you vibe with both the people and what you're all doing. Good luck in the performance!!

Date: 2024-03-08 02:34 pm (UTC)Woohoo dancing is the best! I'm glad you found a dance group that is enjoyable instead of stressful. Ballet is cool but seems really high pressure, especially 13 years of it!
Omg did ur brother mention any specific ship or just femslash in general?? Good luck persuading him to give some f/f fics a chance!

My brother didn't mention any specific ships, but i think he'd like fuyurumi (bc he likes todofam dynamics and there's some good overlap with that)
